Guntur: Residents of Chinakakani village under Mangalagiri mandal of Guntur district on Tuesday rescued a four-year-old girl from the clutches of a couple who was torturing and forcing her to do household chores. The couple had arrived in 10 days ago and had brought Lakshmi about three days later.
Since then, the villagers could hear the moans of the poor girl as she was tortured by the couple.
On Tuesday, the villagers’ patience ran out and they gathered before the couple’s house to accost them.
However, sensing danger, the couple fled from the village. The villagers then called up officials of the women and child welfare department who visited the village and took charge of the girl.
Child development project officer K. Pramila shifted the girl to Sisu Gruha in Guntur.
She said that Lakshmi doesn't know if her native place is Guntur or Bapatla. Efforts are on to trace her parent.
