The White House announced today that Megan Smith is the country’s first female chief technology officer and assistant to the president.
Smith is leaving Google after nine years to use her talents on Capitol Hill. At Google she was the vice president of Google[x], where she worked on futuristic tech projects.
In her new position, Smith will work to incorporate technology into the administration’s policies and actions.
“Megan has spent her career leading talented teams and taking cutting-edge technology and innovation initiatives from concept to design to deployment,” President Obama said in a statement. “I am confident that in her new role as America’s chief technology officer, she will put her long record of leadership and exceptional skills to work on behalf of the American people.”
