The San Antonio Business Journal hosted its 2014 Women's Leadership Awards ceremony at Oak Hills Country Club.
And there were plenty of awesome women to be found from the award-winners themselves to our keynote speaker, Cindy Taylor, who is the CEO locally based consultancy firm The Cindy Taylor Group LLC.
Taylor spoke on the four superpowers that us women possess. Although before that, she made sure to let the audience know that the photo that was on the screen during her talk was NOT one she was pleased with. I told her to blame it on me. She did. But to be mentioned in any talk given by this dynamic leader is an honor — even if it was more of a humorous ribbing than a recognition.
Not that Cindy needed any help making her talk interesting, but at one point during her presentation there was a clap of thunder. Discussing that event a few minutes after her keynote, Cindy told me that the thunder was a special greeting from Sandy Lowe Sanchez, former Special Reports Editor for the Business Journal.
Women’s Leadership Awards and 40 Under 40 Awards were two publications that meant a lot to Sandy, who passed away in 2011 after a long and hard-fought battle with several cancers. That this force of nature would make her presence known during Cindy’s talk is not the least bit surprising.
As in years past, the Business Journal chose outstanding women leaders from various industries — including the tech, real estate financial and aerospace fields. Nonprofit leaders and community activists were also honored for their work to improve the lives of those who call San Antonio home.
The list of names has been mentioned before, but now it’s time to give the full run-down — including the specific category in which each woman was recognized. And then, of course, there were the big three.
